Pocono shortens races.

Post by flyingturns89 on Wed Aug 10, 2011 4:21 pm

Pocono Raceway has announced that both of their races will be shortened by 100 miles, or 40 laps. For the first time in track history, they will run a 400 mile race.

While in the past, I didn't mind the racing in Pocono, shortening the race to 400 miles has been a long time coming

What I'd like to see them do is cut one race down to 400 miles, and the other down to 250 miles.

What I'd like to do is have Nascar dump both races for "SAFTEY"

What I'd like to do is teach you how to spell "safety" right.

In all seriousness though, I looked at why they did this, and they said it would change fuel milage, making the race more exciting. Then I looked at the race results from this past race, and saw some gambling on fuel until Lap 153, which would now be seven to go. So, maybe they're right.

I never really felt a race at Pocono was too long. There must be something wrong with me.

Winston Kelley (MRN Radio pit reporter and NASCAR Hall of Fame Director) won't go to Pocono. He hates how long the races take. He told me that himself two years ago at Nashville Superspeedway.

I wonder if the rain they had there last week had anything to do with this. Remember that the track doesn't have lights, so a shorter race would provide for extra drying time if it rains.

Quite possibly, I haven't thought of that. Remember that the Mattioli Family retired like right before the race, and they might of been getting alot of heck from race fans, too.

Very happy they're doing this to the second race, but the Pocono 500 (in June) was the first race I ever watched. So yeah. [/sadnostalgiaface]

Personally, I'd like to see this track off the schedule period.
