Re: 2014 Hanmore Formula Overdrive Thread (RACE 5 IS UP!)
Texas Added to 2014 Formula Overdrive Schedule
In a strange turn of events, Hanmore officials announced that Texas Motor Speedway will once again be the season finale. The track is notorious for being the site where five drivers lost their lives in the 2012 season finale. The track was removed for 2013 in favor of Auto Club Speedway due to the tragic events and ongoing safety concerns.
In a conference call, Formula Overdrive CEO Frank Dolan stated, "The allure of TMS was too great to ignore. Obviously there is going to be a lot of well-deserved criticism for making this decision, but to find stability as a racing league we must have a crown jewel event, and we felt the proper place to host it is at Texas." Dolan was immediately asked about the safety concerns. He responded, "Avril came in as chassis supplier, and their track record last year and throughout their history in Champ Car is enough to warrant a positive attitude about safety going forward. Look at [Alexis] Rainsford's accident a few years ago at Fontana, and somehow she was alright. The track itself wasn't the problem, it was people not being able to see through smoke and plowing into other vehicles at full speed. The track reinforced the SAFER barriers and re-did all of the catchfencing around the track, so there should be no issues."
Dolan went on to explain the race format. It will be the only one-off race of the season, and if there are more than 36 entries, the field will be set by qualifying races. 36 cars will transfer to the main race. Dolan has yet to decide if those in contention for the title will be guaranteed a spot in the race.
2014 Silly Season Changes
The biggest story of the offseason was the formation of the Hurricane Racing Team, after three 2013 teams (Stefano, ReinSpeed, and TexMex) merged together for 2014. Rookies Henrik Hamalainen and Natalie Balandier were hired to drive the two cars.
Harriet Wallace comes over from Dash Cup to replace Cindy Delamere at Carter Motorsports. Delamere replaces the outgoing Lydia McKenzie at ClarTech.
McSwain Technical Academy exits the series after 3 seasons to focus on their FARC efforts, but Hamilton Porteau moves over to Zukunft Legenden Motorsports.
Rossini Sport leaves the series, but sells all of their equipment to Team Berenelli.
British Formula 3 frontrunners Allaway Autosport purchase equipment and engines from Lycoia and enter the series.

- Zach Branch Injured In Lap One Accident
Zach Branch, driver of the #6 for Atsuro GP, was involved in a spectacular accident in the esses on the first lap of the race. He hit the wall with the nose of the car before doing several quick rolls. Emergency marshals attended to him for several minutes before he walked away under the help of the safety crew. Later at a local hospital, he was diagnosed with a broken wrist, a mild concussion, and a cracked rib. Atsuro has named test driver Hideki Kimura to car #6 while Branch is out indefinitely.
Sarah Wexler, who was involved in the same accident, appeared to be shaken up but was cleared post-race by the medical team.

- Spoiler:
- Devin Robson pleased with Top-3 finish
"Already I feel like I'm exceeding more expectations than ever before. I don't think that we would've been that far up the front of the grid early in the season, but this is probably a chance to challenge for the title this year which would be an incredible feeling for me and our team that hardly has any major sponsorship onboard with us. Road Courses also suit my driving style as well, so it could help us get quicker as the year goes on, although I think other teams might try and catch on to the front I think this season will be very competitive and we could a variety of different winners too, hopefully one of them will be me very soon."

Tom Delgado Seeking Hanmore World Championships Entry
In a surprise announcement that seems to go hand-in-hand with his most recent tweet, Tom Delgado announced that he is currently seeking an entry into the season-ending American 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
"Life is unpredictable. It has a way of taking you places that you never expect. Now, life is potentially going to take me into open wheel racing. I am looking at participating the American 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. I am well aware that there is a $5,000,000 prize for the winner, and that's a small part of my reasoning for wanting to race. However, my reason for wanting to run is the prestige that comes with winning. I have won in three major racing classifications, but I have always had a hunger to win in open wheel competition. My quest for victory will never end, and this is just part of the master plan" Delgado said, rambling towards the end. It is unclear if he is planning on entering with his own successful FARC team, Tom Delgado Racing, if he will potentially seek a 3rd car from an existing team, or if he'll latch onto another team that is looking to enter a one-off in the event.
Tom Delgado is the only driver in history to win points paying races in three major series.

RaceSim to Sponsor TrentGP?
RaceSim, the world's leading online motorsports simulator, is looking to become the primary sponsor of the TrentGP cars of Marco Cardillo and Devin Robson. The simulator, which recently added Formula Overdrive to its long list of race-able vehicles, wants to expand into Formula Overdrive. However, there may be a catch to this sponsorship. The winner of the RaceSim Overdrive Challenge gets a 3 day test with the TrentGP team, and a free spot on the entry list in the American 500 at Texas in a car fielded by TrentGP.

Race Review: Brands Hatch Weekend
Feature Race
It was a clear, sunny day in Kent at the Brands Hatch circuit for the 4th race of the 2014 Formula Overdrive season. Italian youngster Alessio Fabiani snatched his first career pole in qualifying on Friday, the first for the Berenelli team. His countryman Marco Cardillo placed his unsponsored TrentGP car on the front row in an exciting performance from both Italians. When the race got going, Fabiani took the lead heading into turn one, but there was problems at the back. Hamilton Porteau was sent off course and into the tire barriers, ending his day. In addition, Pastor Grosjean and Ross Carter both spun but continued running, escaping damage. Bea Sting threw her #24 Lycoia off in Druids Bend, but was lucky enough to narrowly avoid plowing into the barriers and kept running. Lewis Smith drove way off course in turn 4 and smashed the tire wall, ending his day on lap one.
Akira Ishikawa and Harriet Wallace entered into a scuffle on lap 7 at turn 5 , the long sweeping right hander, where Ishikawa hooked the left rear tire of Wallace and sent both cars into the armco barrier heavily. Both drivers were unharmed and got out and had a slight discussion before being whisked away by track marshals.
Alessio Fabiani pulled out a 5 second gap on the field by lap 11 of the 25 lap feature, but for the second week in a row blew a camshaft while having the race and in the bag and failed to finish. Marco Cardillo was about to inherit the lead of the race when Chaud Roddick pitted, but became involved with a lapped car on lap 17. Patrick Hartrell hooked Cardillo on the front straightaway, sending Cardillo into the pitwall and upside down. Cardillo walked away and was visibly incensed by the actions of car 27.
Klaus Schenider lead the final 11 laps and held on for his second career Formula Overdrive victory.
Sprint Race
Akira Ishikawa and Patrick Hartrell qualified on the front row for the sprint race. However, the race was marred by an enormous crash at turn one on the very first lap that eliminated 9 cars from the race immediately, including Schneider, the winner of the feature race. After that, it was pretty uneventful until Ishikawa, who looked set to easily take her first FO win, lost a camshaft with 3 laps to go in the 15-lap sprint. However, there was still a first time winner as Cindy Delamere hung on to win on home soil. Marco Cardillo and Alessio Fabiani rounded out the podium.
