That's interesting. Richard Petty loses one title, why Earnhardt loses two. And by the looks of it, I'm glad I wasn't watching NASCAR in the late 90's.

1. Jimmie Johnson 384

9. Kyle Busch 30
10. Carl Edwards 15
11. Ryan Newman 13
12. Brian Vickers 0

2010

Nelson's already done that one on page three, so I won't bother with typing the whole thing out. Johnson wins title number 5 with 329 points, and wins easily in the chase as well. Nelson's figures and mine disagree on a point or two here and there, but the only significant difference is that according to my re-check, Jeff Burton got 122 points, not 114. Oh, and we had a record 18 drivers score at least 100 points.

2011

Also already done. Carl becomes the first driver since Lee Petty in 1950 to win the title with only one victory (unless you don't count Lee, in which case he's the first ever.) Carl also wins the chase, since Tony missed the show. He got 319 points total for the year. There are only two disagreements between my numbers and Nelson's. I'm only coming up with 248 points for Gordon, which places him below Johnson, and I get 98 for Junior. (Oh, and I put Trevor Bayne in 29th, just because I don't like not counting drivers.)

2012

Season in progress, results viewable on any page here. A few disagreements, though. I'm getting 181.5 for Gordon, 172 for Kyle Busch, and only 63 for Logano.

And of course, if anyone notices any errors in my results, please let me know.

Re: NASCAR with other points

Post by Spannerhead29 (Nelson) on Wed Oct 24, 2012 10:30 pm

Jeff Gordon:
Phoenix 8th (4)
Texas 4th (12)
Charlotte 7th (6)
Michigan 6th (Cool
Sonoma 6th (Cool
Kentucky 5th (10)
Loudoun 6th (Cool
Indianapolis 5th (10)
Pocono 1st (12.5*)
Bristol 3rd (15)
Atlanta 2nd (18)
Richmond 2nd (18)
Loudoun 3rd (15)
Dover 2nd (18)
Talladega 2nd (18)
Kansas 10th (1)

That equals 189.5 (Which I've just realised puts him up further in the standings)

Kyle Busch:
Phoenix 6th (Cool
Fontana 2nd (9*)
Kansas 10th (1)
Richmond 1st (25)
Talladega 2nd (18)
Darlington 4th (12)
Charlotte 3rd (15)
Kentucky 10th (1)
Indianapolis 2nd (18)
Watkins Glen 7th (6)
Bristol 6th (Cool
Atlanta 6th (Cool
Chicago 4th (12)
Dover 7th (6)
Talladega 3rd (15)
Charlotte 5th (10)

That equals 172, so you're right on him.

Joey Logano:
Daytona 9th (2)
Phoenix 10th (1)
Darlington 10th (1)
Dover 8th (4)
Pocono 1st (25)
Sonoma 10th (1)
Daytona 4th (12)
Bristol 8th (4)
Chicago 7th (6)
Loudoun 8th (4)
Dover 10th (1)
Charlotte 9th (2)

That equals 60, which is lower than your count and a hell of a lot lower than my original count. I'm going to go over this season again because it seems I have the dumbs and have screwed up in some places.

Jeff Gordon:
8th at Phoenix, 4 points
4th at Texas 12 (16)
7th at Charlotte 6 (22)
6th at Michigan 8 (30)
6th at Sears 8 (38)
5th at Kentucky 10 (48)
6th at Loudon 8 (56)
5th at Indy 10 (66)
1st at Pocono 12.5 (78.5)
3rd at Bristol 15 (93.5)
2nd at Atlanta 18 (111.5)
2nd at Richmond 18 (129.5)
3rd at Loudon 15 (144.5)
2nd at Dover 18 (162.5)
2nd at Talladega 18 (180.5)
10th at Kansas 1 (181.5)

I don't see where you get 189.5 from. That's sixteen races, which is the number of top tens he's had this season, so unless I'm screwing something up here, it should be 181.5.

Joey Logano
(Almost not worth disagreeing over at all.)
9th at Daytona 2 points
10th at Phoenix 1 (3)
10th at Darlington 1 (4)
8th at Dover 4 (8)
1st at Pocono 25 (33)
10th at Sears 1 (34)
4th at Daytona 12 (46)
8th at Bristol 4 (50)
7th at Chicago 6 (56)
8th at Loudon 4 (60)
10th at Dover 1 (61)
9th at Charlotte 2 (63)

Of course, it's entirely possible that I'm frelling this up somehow.

You've inspired me to keep doing ALMS with F1 points

In 2009, the GT ranks were dominated by the Flying Lizard team. Corvette made their debut in GT2 at Mid Ohio (I was there). This was also the first year for the Rahal BMWs. Race winners

Sebring: 62 Risi Competizone (Melo / Kaffer / Salo)
St. Petersburg: 45 Flying Lizard Motorsports (Bergmeister / Long)
Long Beach: 45 Flying Lizard Motorsports (Bergmeister / Long)
Salt Lake City: 45 Flying Lizard Motorsports (Bergmeister / Long)
Lime Rock Park: 45 Flying Lizard Motorsports (Bergmeister / Long)
Mid Ohio: 45 Flying Lizard Motorsports (Bergmeister / Long)
Road America: 90 BMW Rahal Letterman Racing (Hand / Auberlan)
Mosport: 3 Corvette Racing (Magnuson / O'Connell)
Petit Le Mans: 62 Risi Competizone (Melo / Kaffer / Salo)
Laguna Seca: 45 Flying Lizard Motorsports (Bergmeister / Long)

So the standings...
1. 45 Flying Lizard Motorsports 194
2. 62 Risi Competizone 139
3. 92 BMW Rahal Letterman Racing 97
4. 87 Farnbacher Loles Motorsports 92
5. 21 Panoz Team PTG 86
6. 3 Corvette Racing 84
7. 44 Flying Lizard Motorsports 72
8. 90 BMW Rahal Letterman Racing 53

10. 18 VICI T-Mobile Racing 38
11. 40 Robertson Racing 28
12. 11 Primetime Racing Group 23
13. 28 LG Motorsports 20
14. 95 Advanced Engineering Pecom 18
15. 61 Risi Competizone 8
16. 17 Team Falken Tire 6
16. 48 Corsa Motorsports 6
18. 22 Panoz Team PTG 2

ALMS 1999 (GT Classes)
In GTS, the fastest cars were the Oreca Vipers, but they didn't appear until race three. The factory Corvettes were part time, and there were a lot of competitive Porsches. There was also a Saleen Mustang, but it didn't do very well
GTS STANDINGS
1. Oreca Team Dodge Viper #91 - 143
2. Oreca Team Dodge Viper #92 - 96
3. Martin Snow Racing #56 - 94

GT was more complicated...and had loads more entries. PTG had four semi factory BMWs but they weren't two consistent. The rest of the field was Porsches, and one of them (Alex Job Racing) dominated. It's also worth noting that the G&W car was driven by "Steve Marshall"

Re: NASCAR with other points

Post by Spannerhead29 (Nelson) on Tue Sep 24, 2013 9:56 am

Chase Update for the 2013 Cup Season, and boy is this interesting.

Kyle Busch is the points leader after the regular season, mainly due to his 5 top 5s in a row, and two wins late in the season. Kasey Kahne ends up in 4th due to 8 top 4's. Brad Keselowski gets into 9th after a very strong start to the season. Now here's the fun part. After the points penalties to Bowyer and Truex Jr. (25 points, which is a win and 2nd last, 50 points in NASCAR is a win and 2nd last), Bowyer finishes up tied for 10th with Jeff Gordon, both had 0 wins, both had 2 2nd's, but Jeff had 3 3rd's compared to Bowyer's 1, so Bowyer misses out on the Chase spot. Now, after Truex Jr. got his points penalty, he dropped from 8th to 12th, but gets a wildcard from, funnily enough, Tony Stewart. Dale Earnhardt Jr. misses out due to getting 1 top 5 in a 15 race stretch. Greg Biffle missed out as well due to only 3 top 5's and severe lack of top 10's late in the season.

Re: NASCAR with other points

Post by tommykl on Sat Nov 09, 2013 1:04 pm

After an 18-month break, we're back for 1952!

Herb Thomas was the most consistent driver early on in the 34-race season, scoring 20 points in the first four races, while Marshall Teague won at Daytona Beach and Jacksonville. Then, it was Dick Rathman who dominated the rest of the first half of the season, scoring four race victories, including three consecutively at Langhorne, Darlington and Dayton, while Thomas lost his consistency. After the Canfield race, Thomas still led with 37 points ahead of Rathman's 36.

Races 14 to 24 changed the face of the standings completely, as Tim Flock (third in points on 30) scored 7 victories and three second places, or 74 points. Thomas managed to regularly score podiums and a victory at Charlotte in order to keep a reasonable but growing gap, and after the round at Asheville-Weaverville, Flock led on 104 points to Thomas' 77, Lee Petty's 57 and Rathman's 56.

From then on, apart from the second race in Macon, Flock would fail to score a podium finish, leaving Thomas to claw back the lost ground. However, this coincided with leaps in performance from Petty and Fonty Flock, and while Thomas was retiring far too often, Flock had a habit of scoring consecutive fourth places. With four races remaining, Flock led on 115 points to Thomas' 97, leaving an 18-points gap with 32 still to play for. Thomas won at Martinsville and North Wilkesboro, with Flock fourth each time. With two races remaining, 8 points separated Flock from Thomas.

The championship was decided in Atlanta on lap 87 when Herb Thomas' axle failed while he was leading the race. From then on, all Flock had to do was finish in the top six, and he duly finished fourth to clinch the title, while Herb's younger brother, 20-year-old Donald Thomas, won his first and only Grand National race, becoming the youngest driver to do so. Thomas won the season closer at West Palm beach with Flock retiring, allowing him to match the champion on his number of wins.

1. Tim Flock - 124 (8 wins, 5 2nds, 2 3rds)
2. Herb Thomas - 121 (8 wins, 7 2nds, 3 3rds)
