ARCA Hall of Shame

Post by BBoy on Tue Aug 09, 2011 5:52 pm

By Alta on the old forums, polished up by me.

So I was looking at the New Jersey ARCA Results when I stumbled upon this in the results.

35 31 0 Wayne Peterson Wayne Peterson Racing (Wayne Peterson) Chevrolet Lap 1 Brakes

He completed 1 lap and lost the brakes....That's quite odd.

So I looked more into his career stats and what I found is laughable. Apparently he has an equal number of started races and races he has DNQ'd in with 39 each, but it gets even more laughable.

2001: 2 starts, 1 DNQ, 9 of 196 laps completed, Both retirements due to brake failures within the first 5 laps....

2002: DNQ'D his only attempt.

2003: 3 starts, 1 DNQ, 7 of 317 laps completed, Fell out of Kansas and DuQuoin with a clutch issue within first 5 laps, and fell out of Pocono on Lap 2 due to handling fail.

2004: 6 starts, 1 DNQ, 277 of 709 laps completed (OMG HAX), Clutch failure at Kentucky on Lap 4, Actually Finished Kansas.....6 Laps Down, Clutch failure at Pocono on Lap 2, Rear End Failure at South Boston on Lap 106 (Hey he got half way there Very Happy), Handling issue on lap 3 at Gateway, Finished DuQuoin 4 laps down, 4 DNF'S out of 6 races.

2005: 3 starts, 6 DNQ's, 1 of 334 laps completed, Vibration at Pocono on Lap 1, Handling issue at Kansas, Overheating issue at Gateway (Overheat in the pits/pace laps???)

2006: 1 start, 8 DNQ's, 0 of 100 laps completed, Need i say more?

2007: 3 starts, 8 DNQ's, 4 of 550 laps completed, Rear End failures at both Iowa and Springfield on lap 2 and a clutch fail at Milwaukee.

2008: 7 starts, 10 DNQ's, 5 of 1186 laps completed (attempted all but 4 races, at least he's trying!), handling issue at Rockingham, Clutch failure at Kentucky, handling issue at both Pocono and Cayuga on the first lap, transmission failure at Berlin, Handling issue on the first lap of Nashville, engine fail on lap 2 at DuQuoin.

2009: 8 starts, 3 DNQ's, 6 of 1312 laps completed, brake failure at Talladega on lap 1 (YOU DON'T USE BRAKES AT DEGA!!!), 2 more on the first lap at Mansfield and Iowa, First lap handling issue at Kentucky, crashed at Berlin (On lap 0?), Handling issue at Springfield on the first lap, clutch fail at Toledo on the first lap, Didn't even start the DuQuion race, clutch fail at Kansas

2010: 2010 is his year =], 7 starts, 29 of 1737 laps completed, brake fail on lap 6 at Palm Beach, Another brake fail at Salem on lap 17, engine fail on lap 4 at Talladega (From what I heard this was legit, but I didn't catch most of this race so not really sure.), overheating issue on lap 1 at Toledo, didn't take the green at either Iowa or Berlin, handling issue at Mansfield, brake issue at New Jersey, didn't start Springfield, brake issue at Chicago on lap zeroooo, and didn't start DuQuion or Salem.

2011: Championship year for Peterson this year, 7 starts, 153 of 1067 laps completed, Managed to get 69 laps completed in at Talladega before succumbing to clutch problems, 70 laps completed at Salem before handling issues sidelined him for the rest of the race, but...OH NO....his past hurdles have returned....Handling issue on lap 4 of New Jersey, brake failure at Michigan on the 1st lap, transmission gives out on lap 2 of Winchester, clutch failure on the 1st lap of Berlin and a handling issue forced him to retire on lap 6 at Iowa.

I understand that some teams fail to make ends meet and this guy is actually in his 70's, but why start-n-park in ARCA when you can pretty much get a somewhat decent finish if you run the whole race, and the fact that he's done this for almost 10 years pretty much seals why I believe this guy is one of the biggest fail drivers in ARCA history.

That #09 West Series car raced at Thunderhill in 2009 when I was there. Thats actually not a terrible team.

I would say to look up that #94 of Con Nicolopolous. He's been parking Brad Smith's 2010 Daytona car for the last few ARCA races.

The #25 has the #35 on its roof, and the headlights on the #32 are for like a Chevrolet or something like that.

I believe (correct me if I am wrong) that the 32 is a Venturini Motorsports entry, and they run a mix of Chevys and Toyotas, so I understand that one.

As for the 25/35 Laughing
By the way, anyone else notice how on the 0 car, they still have stains from the 6 that they removed?

I think the #32 is for Win-Tron Motorsports, but the picture could be from a couple of years ago, so I can see that.

I know these guys don't have a lot money, but using duct tape to cover up or make a new number is hilarious!

Con Nicolopolous' car is really bad.

Some of James Hylton's car aren't that bad and the #26 Appliance Zone car isn't that bad either.

^ That.

Good find TRBfan, although to be fair, some of those pictures (most of the Basham cars) aren't Hall of Shame worthy, they're just small teams with normal ARCA cars. It's the cars with taped-over numbers, horrendous paintjobs, or pre-race crash damage.

Yes..It is.

To finish off. Here is a guy whos run the same car with a whole bunch of different numbers:

Tom Berte:

#14-2008

#15-2008

#25-2008

#35-2009

#47-2008

#48-2008

There is a ton of other fail ARCA cars. I was just hitting the guys that had run for years.

Brad Smith's 2007 and 2008 car literally looks like something that would've been directly painted in NR2003. The numbers on that car scream for an outline.

Con Nicolopoulos' car wouldn't look bad if the original numbers weren't duct-taped over and then taped a new number on. By the way, I think you may have misspelled Nicolopolous, as if it weren't hard enough to. Laughing

flyingturns89 wrote:Is Marcus Fux's last name pronounced the way I think it is. Laughing

The x might be silent, in which case, it might be pronounced like "fuh" or "foo". It's funny either way. Smile

Please keep posting more fail cars. I find them quite amusing.

The 32 Car has Chevy Headlights on a Toyota body, hence it is fail.

The 32 is from Win-Tron Racing. They seem to usually alter between Dodges and Toyotas so its odd that they somehow got Chevy headlights on a Toyota.

And yes, Venturini Motorsports does tend to alter between Chevys and Toyotas, but even they remember which is which Laughing

All right I got a very strange new member to the Hall of Shame. The driver's name is Ryan Unzicker. Now he's really a very good driver but that's not why he's in. See, in 2003, when Unzicker was 22, he ran three ARCA races late in the year. He completed all but nine laps in those three races, had a best finish of 6th, and a worst finish of 17th. However, he hasn't run another race since then. Then all of the sudden he's on this week's ARCA race entry list in, get this, a Venturini Motorsports car. Not sure where the fail is in this, but something just doesn't seem right.

Thats because this is a dirt race and he's going to be in the Venturini car that usually start and parks. The car only runs the entire race if its a special race or something.

Another Peterson fail driver to report. Driver's name is Mike Senica. Ran three races for Peterson last year with two laps complete and finishes of 30th, 31st, and 33rd. The amazing thing is he always seemed to be able to beat two cars in the field. The sad thing is his hometown is less than a half an hour from where I live. He's driving a #04 for Roger Carter this weekend though.

Pardon the minor bump, but I just wanted to say I looked through Con Nicolopoulos' statistics on Racing Reference, and I saw that every race he's ever started in ARCA, he didn't finish due to one transmission failure, one engine failure, one brake failure, and five handling failures.

Not really a fail, but doesn't the #46 of Bob Hill look familiar? Hmmm...

Take a look at this ugly ass #79 car.

Well, those pictures confirm to me that this indeed is uniquely (though not limited to) ARCA.

That's pre-race damage.

Andy Hillenburg's team gets creative by making a 0 completely out of tape.

That's pre-race damage as well.

The hood says just, "JESUS", which pretty much summed up my reaction to the car.

See all that right side damage?

Well this is that same car, 10 races later...

Cunningham Motorsports being too poor to afford number decals, so they just use tape.

Where have we seen this scheme before?

Surely having some sense of tact can't be expensive with race damage like that (well except the 26).

Now lets see if anyone can spot whats wrong with these two:

^^^^^^People just cannot afford repairs, I guess. They don't give a hoot if their car looks like a 5-year old was driving it. They just wanna race, I guess.

Even if you're on a low budget, can't you at least put a little effort in making your cars at least half-way decent?

I have a friend of mine that goes to school with me who's a front tire changer for Andy Hillenburg Motorsports. He told me once that they had one Chevy body with a Ford front bumper and a Dodge motor (that was used by BILL ELLIOT while racing for Evernham Motorsports)!!!! Also, another friend of mine that's a jackman for that team (I believe) said that the ARCA officials ask the poor teams if they're even going to run the whole event or not and they just let the teams slide by. No wonder so many of these cars look like crap.
