Edwards, Kumangu in Talks with RTR

Team officials at Vaughn Stock Car Championship team RTR Automotive Engineering announced today that they were looking to expand to at least three cars in 2012. It was also announced that the team was talking to Gary Edwards and Mumba Kumangu to drive for them next season.

Edwards, a native of Lakeland, Florida, has not raced professionally in over a year. He raced for National Racing (now known as Team Saar USA) in the TM Master Cup Series in 2009, scoring a win at the Autodromo Daniel Esteveem. In that race he beat Leonid Roderick by a matter of inches. Edwards moved to Camelot Racing in 2010, but after failing to qualify for many races, was sacked from the team prior to the race at Indianapolis.

Kumangu on the other hand hails from the Southern African nation of Zambia and entered the TM Junior Series in 2008. He won the race at what was then called Canadian Blue Ridge (now Alberta Superspeedway), but then seemingly fell off the face of the earth until resurfacing in 2011 to drive for International Motor Sport in the ARLA Elite Series. Kumangu ran well in his first race, scoring a top five finish. He won his second race, at the St. Petersburg street circuit. Since then Kumangu hasn't won again, but has remained competitive, especially at the road courses. Supposedly he won't return to the ARLA ranks next year.

Neither Edwards nor Kumangu were available for comment. It is not clear which of the two will get the ride, although team officials say there is a possiblity that RTR will merge or partner with another team and field four cars, but sponsorship is lacking. They currently field two cars in the VSCC for Cameron Taylor and a roatation of drivers. Alexander Leanowens, who is in the rotation, says that he may be looking for a ride in a differant series, possibly in sports car racing with RTR's highly sucessful endurance race program. Cameron Taylor will return to the team next season, and the team is reportedly satisfied with Kendall Worthington's performance.

Sponsorship discussions are underway, but all that was said was that they were in discussions with a hotel company and with several of their current secondary sponsors become primaries on one of the team's other cars.

RTR Partenering with Another Team, Sponsorship for 2012

Rumors have been circulating that RTR Automotive Engineering will partner with another racing team in the VSCC in 2012. Some reports indicate that it is a team that formerly raced in another series, while other reports say it is a current VSCC team. In other news it appears that should this happen the partnership would be a four car team (two from RTR and two from the other team) sponsored by Applebee's, Yellowpages, Holiday Inn, and Shell.

RTR Team Owner Attempting Clairmont

Mark Taylor, the owner of RTR Automotive Engineering will attempt the prestigious race at Clairmont. "I was amazed by the crowds of fans in this series for one of Cameron's races. I decieded to have a go at it" spoke the 55 year old driver, Taylor is a multiple time champion in GT racing in the United States.

Edwards signs with RTR

Gary Edwards was hired by RTR Automotive Engineering to pilot their #125 Holiday Inn Inglesby Flashback M-Type at the upcoming race at Clairmont. Edwards has been out of a drive since parting ways with Camelot Raving over a year ago. He has one TM Master Cup Series victory to his credit, coming at the Autodrome Daniel Esteveem in 2009, where he beat Leonid Roderick by a matter of inches. He was driving the #8 Goodyear Saar for National Racing. He continued to be a factory driver for the Saar Motor Company in 2010, when he drove the #20 Kodak Tremwell for Camelot Racing. However, he was released from the team prior to Indianapolis, replaced with Mike Whitmore. He hasn't driven professionally since then, but RTR officials contacted him about a ride earlier in the year. They were able to put a deal for Clairmont into place. It is believed the Edwards may race for the team full time in 2012.

RTR Intersted in Buying Last Row's Spot

RTR's expansion may begin before next season: Last Row Autosport withdrew from the VSCC after Karjala, opening up two stops. RTR says they will contact Mark Vaughn and Thomas Clarke about buying out the grid spots. Thomas Rex, an official at the team, stated "the new joint venture with Gary Edwards has given us the opportunity to compete on a bigger level. We respect Last Row's decision, but RTR is confident in the future of the VSCC, and want to invest in it."

Taylor Respondes to the Delgado Hospitalization

Cameron Taylor and Tom Delgado are not the best of friends. Their fierce rivalry came to a head at the Round of Decatur, where they tangled on the first lap. Both failed to qualify. However, Taylor said over the phone in a call with a reporter getting responses from drivers on the recent news about Tom Delgado that the recent news makes their rivalry "insignificant". Tom Delgado had a hart attack and was transported to a local hospitol in critical but stable condition. "Tom and I don't like each other very much, but at a time like this that kind of crap is insignificant. I knew he had a stressful year and we all thought it was having some kind of effect. But I never thought it would get this bad. Keep Tom in your thoughts please."

Taylor Devasted by Jankovic's Death

The dangers that racing drivers face is well known. But it is often hidden from view. 2011 has been an especially brutal year. Eric Jackson suffered serious injuries in an ARLA accident. Woody Watts and Leslie Riggs were injured at Daytona, leaving both on the sidelines for the remainder of 2011. Scott Hamilton, a promising driver, killed at Brazil, in an accident eeriely similar to many previous incidents at the track involving Fred Klein, Chris Johaanes, and Rachel Rainsford.

Another accident similar to Hamilton's occured in the VERC race at Mallory Park. On the final lap, Cameron Taylor dove to the inside of Bill Wainwright trigering a massive crash. Kristain Jankovic was left fighting for his life. Yesterday, he lost that battle.

"I caused the accident. I made a mistake and somebody got...used up because of what I did. Kristain was a great man. He was a friend of mine off the track. And the guy could drive. He was born to race. It's this time in your life that you have to question what your doing. A friend of mine called me yesterday. She said that if the dangers were too high, I should quit. I came close to quitting. I won't. It's what I love to do, and its what he [Jankovic] loved to do. It's a horrible thing to have on your coincence though. Please keep Jankovic and his family in your thoughts and prayers"

RTR Looking for a New Sponsor in 2012

The recent financial trouble of the Eastman Kodak Corporation has had an effect on the motorsports world. RTR Automotive Engineering, Team STRIKE, and Camelot Racing all face challanges with the company's chapter eleven status. RTR has lost its funding from the company, but say they are in discussions with others.

"Kodak has had financial problems as of late, and we can certainly see that they need to cut back. We are in discussions with a number of other companies to fill their place on our cars. These include Delta Airlines and CNN" said a statement from the team.

Rumor has it that the team will partner with Peregrine Autosport in the Dash Stock Cup Series. Confirmed at the team next year is Cameron Taylor, Kendall Worthington, and Gary Edwards. Mumba Kumangu and Alexander Sybilton III (Alexander Leanowens) appear close to a deal.
