Manufacturer Teams Request Provisional Spots on Karjala Grid
It was revealed on Thursday that an entity referring itself as the Master Cup Manufacturers Associaton (MCMA) had petitioned TM Master Cup series officials to give provisional places on the starting grid of the Karjala Grand Prix to the highest 12 cars in owner points that have road car equivalents. The number of participants in the MCMA were not revealed, but it's believed that the teams involved are; Team Saar USA, Mitchell & Sons, FLASH Racing, Star Nemoto Racing, Owen DeGarmo Enterprises, Xenos Racing, Majestic Motorsports, and supposedly, James Dalton Racing (who may rebrand his cars as Bolden Kiowas, which they already strongly resemble) as well.
No word on if there are other teams involved with the MCMA. Only Hodges-Walter Racing, Gessler Richter MC Team, and Volpi Racing Team have denied their involvement. Every other team could not be reached for comment.
Provisional positions have not been given for the Karjala Grand Prix since 2010.

Provisional positions have not been given f
or the Karjala Grand Prix since 2010.
Reminds of the PDA that tried to boycott Talladega when it opened in 1969. Obviously different situation here.
Re: Manufacturer Teams Request Provisional Spots on Karjala Grid
I'm pretty sure this is a race where absolutely everyone on the entry list has to qualify rather than get provisional spots right?

BWardboy: The old system before 2011 essentially allowed the big name teams to get in because they were already locked in, the rest of the spots would have to be qualified in I believe.
If everyone gets an equal shot, no one can complain that one team is treated better than another, unless a team is DQ'd in favor for another team.

I see, but what about Indy and Decatur? Will they be the same as Karjala or will everyone have to qualify for those two races?

Most likely the latter, It'll be interesting though if something like this goes through, then again, it's all to create a little mayhem pre-race.

- Spoiler:
- "Really? this just dosen't seem right. everyone should have a equal shot at making the field. i find provisionals being a bad idea." said Bill Calhoun, who will be competing in the 2012 ASCC season.

MCMA Appeal Thrown Out
On Saturday, before the start of prequalifying, the Master Cup Manufacturers Association appeal for allowing provisional places on the grid to manufacturer teams was denied. The MCMA reportedly requested that the top 10 manufacturer cars not already in the race be given positions 33-42 on the grid.
"Who in their right mind would have granted that?" TM Master Cup supremo Terry Schoffner stated to the media.
"It was too late for that decision to have been made anyway."
Schoffner's timing with the MCMA appeal angered many on both sides of the debate. Under TM Master Cup series rules, the qualifying procedure may not be altered without unanimous consent of all participating teams after the final practice session. Schoffner scheduled the MCMA hearing to take place after the final practice session.
"The officials didn't even give the MCMA a fair chance." FLASH racing co-owner Frank Lawrence said.
"I'm not sure I agree with the tactics there, they seemed pretty unfair."
